Beauty and the Beast, the timeless classic love story comes to the stage in a refreshingly new musical performance by the talented teen cast from the Lane Cove Theatre Company.

An original script written and directed by Sarah Edwards, this adaptation of the well-known and much-loved tale takes audiences on an adventure with kind-hearted and adventurous Belle, who ends up imprisioned by the Beast, the Prince who has been trapped in a spell by an enchantress. And with the help of some quirky characters, the castle's staff turned into household objects, Belle and the Beast form a magical and unlikely bond.

Despite his appearance, Belle can see the kindness and true beauty within and romance blossoms between the two. And with the curse only broken by learning to love another, the Prince returns to his former self and he and Belle live happily ever after.

Full of humour, song and dance, the young cast deliver their lines perfectly, both spoken and in song with entertaining renditions of songs 'Hungry Like the Wolf' and 'Crazy'. The whole performance is engaging and you find yourself barracking for the Beast as he starts to realise his feelings for Belle. Meanwhile the powerful message, that true beauty comes from within, is as relevant as ever and in this day where there is such emphasis on body image and looks, could not be more fitting deliverd by a teen cast.

The young stars Josie Segal (Belle), Alexei Belchenko (the Beast), Cassie Mildwater (Gaston), Jeremy Segal (Lumiere), Hayden Ashley (Cogsworth), Madeleine Biddle (Mrs Potts and Lefou), Aidan Emeleus (Maurice), Emma Ashley (Plumette), Katie McPherson (Philippe the Horse) and Eve Emeleus (Chip) were wonderful and their individual talent impressive.

The chemistry between the cast is strong and the interactions enjoyable to watch. The Beast and Belle's relationship is touching, Lumiere and Cogsworth bounce off each other with spot-on accents, Gaston and Lefou make a great pair conniving to win over Belle and Mrs Potts and Chip are just adorable together.

A thoroughly enjoyable production, within an intimate performance space, ensuring you feel totally immersed in the story, Beauty and the Beast is suitable for audiences of all ages. Tickets can be purchased online or at the venue.
