The Landmark Hotel - Reloaded

An update for all of you, my loyal readers, to whom I made a solemn promise last year - "I shall return".
Ladies and gentlemen, the term "rotten den of vice and misery" gets thrown around pretty loosely these days. But in this case, no other description can suffice.
There is much to be said about any establishment that sacks a chef for being "too good". The Landmark shall forever more be known as the slimiest backwater in Eastwood. Subsequent visits to this hole have proven less and less rewarding, and none more so than the latest – when we learned of the departure of its only saving grace.
Famous, for a very short period of time, for serving burgers rated in the top five in Sydney's entirety, the management of this joint decided they didn't want that sort of good publicity. Apparently, too many people were coming for the food, rather than to slap away their paychecks. That's right – they sacked the chef, who dished up some of Sydney's finest burgers, because he was a distraction from the miserable one-armed bandits in the gaming lounge.
This pub now has but one claim to fame – it is Sydney's finest example of everything wrong with the NSW pub scene. Now, the only point of differentiation between this shiny, new-fangled house of shame, and its older counterpart across the railway track, is the railway track itself.
The story of The Landmark reads like a the sad narrative of a real life degenerate gambler – with a real chance for success, enormous potential to stand out from the crowd, and plenty of supporters cheering them on (myself included –
see my earlier review ), they chose poorly. Dazzled by the promises of the flashing lights, hypnotised by the dollar signs, they pumped their life into a few dozen machines. They're now well beyond help, their friends have given up on them, and they get angry when anyone suggests they have a problem.
This cash-vacuum, ladies and gentlemen, is an establishment that knows the price of everything, and the value of nothing. Avoid at all costs.
