Perhaps you have wondered, as I have, about the rise of pop-ups. That is, here today gone to tomorrow businesses, often fun and trendy, that seem to pop up out of nowhere, astound and then explode into nothingness.

Apparently the original concept was based on Japanese consumer culture and their penchant for rare and limited edition products.

A store would pop up and when products were sold out, which wouldn't take long, the pop-up would close just as quickly and then pop-up on another occasion. But just whereabouts, was anybody's guess.

Whatever the history they are an interesting cultural phenomena that are garnering a lot of consumer attention.

The attraction seems to be that they have this feeling of fly by night exclusivity as if you had stumbled onto a private event.

Now there is a showcase for the world of pop-ups, a festival called quite aptly The Land of Popsicles

The festival with be popping up in Melbourne from the 25th of June at 1000 £ Bend in the CBD. (Formerly the Peter Stevens motorbike repair garage.)

This venue is one of the most original spaces in Melbourne, with an innovate cafe, huge gallery and an events space soon to be filled with pop-ups.

I would love to tell you more about what will be there but it is all being kept under wraps.

So you will just have to watch this space.

They are however advertising four days of non-stop pop, including pop up cinemas , pop-up restaurants and even a 'School of Pop'. Click here.

It is all about showing off the power of the pop-up.

It is run by PopUnion an industry collective which unites all things that pop.

So why don't you pop along. As it is likely to be very popular.
