Trying to get out of the city for a few hours (or weekend, even?) If you're hoping to find a spot that boasts a tranquil little town, sand dunes that rival most deserts', and turquoise sea, Lancelin may be the ticket!
Even on a cloudy winter day, Lancelin is spectacular
About an hour and a half north of Perth CBD, Lancelin was originally called Wangaree, the Aboriginal word for fish. Still a big fishing town, Lancelin is now a big summer holiday spot, but having visited in late July, I can assure you that no matter the time of year, Lancelin is a great place to get away from it all.
For the more adventurous visitor, Lancelin offers extreme sports amidst the pristinely white sand dunes: feel free to bring an off-road vehicle for 4x4 driving or rent a sand board to whoosh down the dunes. Warmer weather offers fishing, windsurfing, and diving as well.

Not into extreme sports? No problem. You can simply enjoy the sounds and smells of the Indian Ocean and the gorgeous beaches, stretching as far as the eye can see.
Lancelin, Western Australia is the perfect town to escape to from Perth - even the drive is lovely. Stay the night or weekend or simply return home after a day of fun in the sun, just away from it all.
