Last night I visited Laksa King in New Market for the first time. I see it from the window of my train regularly, and decided it was finally time to make the 2-stop trip and sample their wares. I don't often eat Malaysian food, but if last night's dinner is anything to go by, I will be trying it again soon!
We arrived at Laksa King around 7.30pm, and as you can probably imagine, it was extremely busy. I stood hopelessly in line amongst a huge group of people, before a friendly strangers explained to me the process of "putting you name down at the counter", so they could find you a seat. Even still, it only took about 10 minutes for us to get seated. So far, so good.
The actual restaurant was really busy and therefore really noisy, but most Asian places are, so don't let that deter you. We ordered a plate of Spring Rolls to start and a Laksa each (Mixed and Chicken) for our mains.
The Spring Rolls were delicious and appeared in less than 10 minutes. The Laksa was also amazing. It was spicy, creamy and absolutely bursting with meat and noodle. Most importantly, it was also delicious!
My complaint? I'm allergic to eggs. The menu specified that the Laksa contained egg noodles, so I requested none in mine. When our meals came, my chicken Laksa contained egg noddles and my boyfriend's mixed Laska, did not. Bugger.
[ADVERT]Never mind, I'm not anaphylactic, so I just scoped them out and popped them into my grateful boyfriend's bowl. Probably keep that in mind if you have a more serious allergy though.
If you're like me and don't often each Malaysian food, give Laksa King in New Market a go. It could be the start of a beautiful new friendship.
