Longing for a brunch date on the grass? Perhaps in a park speckled with local ducks and swans with a playground that can babysit the kids awhile? Wattle Grove's Lakeside Park is the haven you've been looking for.

Tucked away in Sydney's south-west amongst Wattle Grove's beautiful homes, this gem of a place is so serene and quiet, you'd think it's the locals' secret. It features a 1km walking trail that circles an artificial lake, which has an inaccessible island in the centre for families of various waterbirds. There are two playgrounds—the large one sheltered—with a few picnic tables, several exercise stations and park benches conveniently built around the lakeside.

This is a place where you feel a sense of harmony and agreement between mankind and nature in a suburban setting. It's rather magical that although it's frequented by mid-morning walkers, groups of yogis, parents with prams and picnic-goers, it's never crowded, the local ducks and swans waddle around freely with their young, and there's always enough quiet to hear them calling and the fountains splashing.

If you're living in the south-west, things can get a little difficult when it comes to finding waterside walking trails nearby. As a toddler mum, I found this lakeside park whilst looking for a change of scenery I didn't have to travel for—and it's been a family favourite since. It's perfect to get your daily walk in, clear your head, recharge and keep your little one entertained in the meantime!

With autumn being rather kind this year, it's still not too late to head out to lay on the grass, or feel its gentle prickles under your feet with the sunshine warm on your face. So head out there this weekend, roll out your picnic rug and let me know what you think!

Note: Feeding the wildlife and fishing from the lake is strictly prohibited.

Beaut article Mualla. The park is suitable for all ages, especially children who get a thrill by seeing birds up close. It is pleasing that parents take their children to places like this.
