Ever wanted to escape to the country for a night or two without actually leaving the city's edge? Well the Lakeside Cottage Luxury B&B is just that. Located on a glorious 5 acre lot and looking toward Mt Dandenong and only a 30 minute drive from the CBD.
The property is situated towards the end of a quiet no through road and welcomes you through a brick pillar driveway entrance lined with roses and shaped trees.
The lake is an attention grabber the moment you enter the driveway and gives the property a very serene feel with its own island complete with bridges and lakeside gazebo. A perfect spot for a cool drink on a warm day overlooking the lake, watching the ducks and listening to water gently cascading from the fountain. At night the gazebo, bridge and fountain are lit up showing reflections in the water.
The standard of the lake and gardens is exceptional and any garden lover would appreciate the effort the owners go to just to maintain the manicured lawns and garden beds. The best part is that there is only one cottage on the property along with the main house so you will almost entirely have the property to yourself.
Inside the cottage is spacious with plenty of natural light with doors and windows to open to let the perfume in. The decor is homely and comfortable with everything you need along with a few luxuries such as a spa bath.
What I like about this B&B is that it's very welcoming and spotlessly clean with quiet surrounds and has everything needed for an enjoyable weekend away. It's position is very good and is in close proximity to the Dandenong Ranges (10 minutes) and the Yarra Valley (20 minutes) giving plenty of options for activities during the day and wineries for special occasions.
The cottage is aimed for those who are celebrating an anniversary, a romantic weekend away, brides and bridesmaids prepare, proposals, wedding nights, birthdays or just for some 'me time'. Occasionally a baby or young child will stay in the cottage and that is fine with the owners however you do need to consider the lake beforehand and be extremely vigilant. I would suggest this is a place best left for adults as it's romantic and would defeat the purpose if children were staying.
As for things to do, the options are endless. If you enjoy great food and wine then try some of Victoria's best wineries in the Yarra Valley. For Australian wildlife visit Healesville Sanctuary, or a nature trail in the Dandenong Ranges often sees Lyrebirds crossing walking tracks and the odd echidna not to mention a spectacular array of birds.Yarra Valley Chocolaterie is a fairly new establishment that serves great ice creams and tons of chocolate in a superb location.
The Dandenong Ranges is less than 10 minutes drive away and a visit to the small towns is a must with the likes of Sassafrass with Miss Marpels ( an extremely popular place for lunch, morning/afternoon tea) Olinda, Emerald and quite a few other small towns. Reviews of the cottage are outstanding and I'm yet to come across a negative one. Stayz website reviews state "truly relaxing and beautiful", "perfect way to spend our anniversary", "best place we have ever stayed", "couldn't believe how luxurious it was" and with more reviews from the Aura website with a rating of 4.9 out of 5 by 16 guests, not to mention many other positive reviews on different websites.
