I'm Anna - a full time worker and keen adventurer who loves to explore and make the most of what life has to offer. My partner and I enjoy spending our weekends in the great outdoors and getting off the beaten track.
This little gem of a place surrounded by gorgeous mountain peaks scenery is found in the Scenic Rim, just 1.5 hours drive away from Brisbane.
We found this to be the ideal romantic couple getaway, however it is also a fantastic place for families. The ambience of Lake Moogerah really depends what time of the year you visit. If you go on a weekend in summer or school holidays, you'll find the place packed with day trippers and campers utilising the lake for water activities. Us, we decided to go in the middle of winter on a frosty weekend in July and it was pretty darn fantastic.
There are are a few options for accommodation at Lake Moogerah. We opted for the Lake Moogerah Caravan Park and paid $35 for a powered sight with all facilities (hot showers, toilets and cooking amenities) included. Because it was the middle of winter there were only a couple of other campers floating around and it felt like we almost had the whole place to ourselves. We scored an amazing site with a beautiful lakeside view. It was pretty chilly during the night, but our efforts of braving the cold were rewarded the next morning with this spectacular misty sunrise.
There are plenty of activities to keep you occupied at Lake Moogerah ranging from a sneaky wine as you watch the sun go down to bird watching, swimming, fishing and other water sports. You can also explore the nearby Moogerah Peaks National Park and climb some mountains if that's your thing. We decided to rent a boat from the caravan park for $70 for half a day and spent the morning zipping around the lake trying to catch some fish.
Sadly we came home empty handed, however, we still had a very enjoyable getaway at Lake Moogerah and look forward to returning soon.
