Lake Gwelup is a seasonal lake located in the northern suburbs. The name Gwelup is Aboriginal meaning "to shift position".
This is one of the few areas left in Perth, that still has intact bushland around it. A large number of birds and frogs and reptiles live here.
The Rainbow Bee-eater bird visits here also. While most of the 75 hectare reserve preserves the remnant bushland, passive recreation is encouraged .
This is a great spot for wildlife photography or just enjoying a stroll or cycle around the lake. There are paved and unpaved paths around the lake.
A viewing platform and boardwalk is on the southern side, allowing you to get closer to the wildlife.
A volunteer conservation group,
Friends of Lake Gwelup works closely with the
City of Stirling council and local residents to help rehabilitate the area.
A wooden bridge on the northern side of the reserve allows you to cross over the drainage depression.
Dogs are welcome but need to be kept on a leash.
