The name might be a bit of a mouthful, but the Lake Ginninderra Western Foreshore Park is a great spot to enjoy a number of outdoor activities. It's a large park, spread out on the western side of Lake Ginninderra, and it can tempt the young and old.
The addition of a large spiders web climbing net and a long flying fox have brought a bit more excitement to the park, especially for older kids who would quickly tire of the more traditional play equipment. There's still a smaller playground with swings, slides, bridges, and ladders, and a playground aimed at older kids that has expert monkey bars and a simulated snowboard.
There's also plenty of clear space around the park, meaning there's plenty of room for a kick of the footy or playing outdoor games. You can also set up a picnic on the grass, or if you'd prefer there are picnic tables spread throughout. Covered and uncovered barbecue areas make it a good spot for a work or family party.
On a hot day you can swim at Yerra Beach. There's a small separated area for younger children, and a much larger swimming area for stronger swimmers. Kids will love getting to the end of the swimming area and exploring the tiny island that lies on the barrier. Make sure you keep an eye out for signs, as sometimes the beach may be closed due to algae or other problems.
Bike and walking paths run around the lake, so if you're looking for somewhere nice but easy to ride it's a good choice. Kids who are learning to ride probably won't do the whole track, but they'll be able to practice on the bike paths near the park.
The Lake Ginninderra Western Foreshore is a large park, with plenty of fun outdoor activities. It's the type of place you can take the whole family along and keep them entertained. If you're looking for a park perfect for birthdays or even a Christmas lunch, pop Lake Ginnderra Western Foreshore on your list.
