Richmond is a small outback rural town and locality in the Shire of Richmond which functions as a service centre to the surrounding pastoral community. Richmond is located halfway between Townsville and Mount Isa, 498 km west of Townsville and 406 km east of Mount Isa.





Richmond is a home of national award-winning Lake Fred Tritton that provides locals and visitors alike with the opportunity to enjoy freshwater-based activities and has been the town's watery retreat during the summer months. Lake Fred Triton is a man-made lake located off Goldring Street behind Lakeview Caravan Park. This lake was named after a local mayor and was officially opened in 2004.




Lake Fred Triton contains 314 mega litres of water and is used for swimming (with sandy beaches on some parts of the lake), fishing, skiing, jet skiing, canoeing and swimming. For the fishing enthusiasts, the lake is stocked with red claw yabbies, barramundi, sooty grunter, sleepy cod, archer fish, forktail catfish, gulf grunter and other varieties. It's also a great spot to cast a line from the jetty or launch your tinnie from the boat ramp.





There is a paved walkway around the lake with extensive lawns and shady trees, just perfect for a stroll, walking the dog, or taking the kids out for a ride on their bikes or scooters. On the edge of Lake Fred Tritton, you can wander through the Bush Tucker Garden telling the story of the native plants and their traditional purposes.







Have a picnic here or use their free gas BBQ and enjoy the lake. There is playground and water park not far from Lake Fred Triton that will keep the kids entertained for hours.
