Situated near the entrance of Para Wirra Conservation Park, the Lake Discovery Loop is an easy trail similar, and yet different, to the Gawler View Nature Loop. It has a compacted surface that undulates gently, hence, becoming very popular among families with young children.
This one-kilometre loop is great either on foot or by bike. The choice is yours. We chose to walk at a relaxing pace around the lake, listening to the many birds along the way. The calm and tranquil water reflects its surroundings perfectly, just like a mirror. For those interested in birdwatching, don't forget to bring your binoculars.
If your children choose to ride the trail, you'll be happy to know that only a basic level of biking skill is required. It is a slow riding zone, however, children would still need to be supervised when nearing the lake.
Although dogs are welcome on this trail, please ensure that they are kept on a lead at all times. This is a requirement of the park, and there are signs at the start of the trail reminding you to do so. It was very sad to see more than half of those walking their dog not doing so the morning we were there.
Picnic tables and barbecue facilities are available for when you are feeling peckish. They are purposefully set in surrounding bushland overlooking the lake. This makes it the perfect spot for morning tea or lunch.
