Who doesn't love a bit of old-world charm? The Laidley Florist and Tea Room entices you through its front doors in the restored Giesemann's Building into a captivating world of tea, flowers and cake. The florist was having a well deserved Christmas break on the day I visited, so the front entry did not have its usual beautiful buckets and barrows of blooms on display.

The tea room, Amazing Grace Patisserie, and Laidley Florist share the space beautifully. There are masses of fresh blooms, straight from the farm, potted plants, chocolates, cakes and pastries, all set amongst vintage furniture and decor.

My tea and scone were served on a vintage plate, cup and teapot set. The tea was hot and the scones warmed, just how I like them. The roses on the table were in full bloom with a delicately sweet scent.

The low hum of conversation from locals and holidaymakers was accompanied by catchy swing style music that was just loud enough to be enjoyed.

I watched with a smile as mothers introduced their little ones to tea in a pot and milk in a jug while others enjoyed a famous Crow's Nest soft drink. Handmade chocolates, roulade, peach blossom cakes, cheesecake and scones are just a few of the delights available along with lasagna, quiche, toasties and other savoury dishes.

If you're thinking this sounds a bit posh, rest assured it is charming, relaxed and very inviting. The service was fast and friendly too. It's a great combination. The patisserie takes group bookings and makes birthday and other special event cakes while the florist offers bouquets, wedding and event arrangements and delivery worldwide.
