My early career was in teaching, writing, producing and directing for theatre, comedy and impro shows. Now I'm a professional creative person. Mostly high-end branding, strategy, writing, editing and digital content creation.
Some of my most cherished childhood memories are of attending the Blue Light Disco with my sister and our best friends. So I'm thrilled to hear Blue Light Discos are still a thing. Laidley Blue Light is about to have its last event for the year and the kids are invited to come along and have some fun.
The disco is taking place on November 24 at Laidley Cultural Centre on Laidley Plainland Road. It's $5 to attend and your entry ticket could win you a lucky door prize. The fun kicks off at 6:30pm and runs until 9:30pm. Its important that the grown ups organise to pick up the kids on time from this event for their safety. There'll be a canteen operating, so it's a good idea to have some money to grab refreshments throughout the night.
Event organisers promise the Blue Light will have, "Great music, great games, great company and most importantly, heaps of fun!"
When we were kids, one of our favourite Blue Light Discos ever was at Transformers in Brisbane City. It was a proper grown ups' nightclub that let Blue Lights run there some afternoons. We were allowed to catch the train from Beenleigh to Brisbane to go to the disco. We'd go and dance for hours, non-stop. We'd copy the moves we saw in music videos and try to make each other laugh. My friends and I got to meet other kids our age and express ourselves to tunes like Madonna's Express Yourself. It was an unforgettable time and we still reminisce about it. Does anyone else have fond memories of Blue Light Discos when you were a kid? I'd love to hear about them in the comments! I'd especially love to hear if anyone else remembers Transformers.
