What's black, red, white, stripy and goes Lah-Lah at Xmas?
If you are looking for something special to do with your young family this Christmas season then Lah-Lah and her Big Live Band is just the thing with their special LIVE Christmas show called Santa's Got A Brand New Groove. Having just taken my family to see the show, I can highly, and enthusiastically, recommend it.

Lah-Lah's Big Live Band are best known for their TV show Lah-Lah's Adventures which screens on ABC Kids, CBeebies, and 7TWO. In the show, singer Lah-Lah, Buzz the Bandleader, Mister Saxophone, Squeezy Sneezy, and Tom Tom introduce pre-school aged kids to the world of music. The group introduces children to instruments and simple musical concepts from their colourful animated world and the show has plenty of catchy tunes that will never leave your head.

I hate to admit it, but I do find myself going about my daily routine singing their songs while I "wash my hands" and tell the kids to "brush your teeth, up and down". With two pre-school aged children Lah-Lah's Adventures are right up our alley. So when the opportunity came along to take my family to a performance of Santa's Got A Brand New Groove and see Lah-Lah's Big Live Band live I just had to say yes.

We attended the Ashfield Town Hall performance, on the 2nd of December, and I can honestly say that the whole family enjoyed themselves and thought the show was fantastic. We had only ever seen Lah-Lah's Big Live Band on TV. But going to one of their live performances you realise that this is a fantastic group of musicians that just happen to have a TV show. Lah-Lah's voice, in particular, really impresses on stage. The TV show just doesn't do justice to the whole group's talents - their songs rise to another level when you see them live. There were moments when I felt like I could have been in a jazz bar .. except for the little kids!

Santa's Got A Brand New Groove has Lah-Lah and her Big Live Band preparing for a visit from Santa. As they get ready for Santa to arrive, they sing a mix of Christmas songs and their own songs. The show culminates in a magical performance of Stars complete with bubbles, mobile phone "stars" and the arrival of Santa. Santa shows off his musical skills with the band before the whole auditorium turns into a dance hall for the end of the show.

Families sat on the floor for the performance at Ashfield Town Hall auditorium. There was some seating along the sides of the auditorium, but the best seats were on the floor. With Lah-Lah and the Big Live Band up on a stage, everyone had a great view, and being an intimate venue, no one was too far from the stage. Being a Christmas show, I felt like I could have been at a Carols by Candlelight event.

The show runs for 50 minutes and the children are enthralled for the entire show. I took a 1 1/2 year old and a 3 year old. My 1 1/2 year old never took their eyes off the stage and my 3 year old enjoyed moving to the music and doing the hand actions and was old enough to enjoy the full experience of the performance.

After the show, children can meet Lah-Lah and have their picture taken with her - which is arguably just as special an experience for the kids as the show itself! There is also Lah-Lah merchandise available for purchase including shirts, musical instruments (of course!), and cute little Lah-Lah dolls which would make an ideal Christmas present.
