A Social Enterprise with Benefits for Many
Travellers heading north on the M1 may notice the Lagoon Creek sign, which indicates the creek that runs from Wamuran and empties into the Tea Tree Swamp Lagoon just north of the Cabooolture Airport. It is a long creek with some very interesting places along the way. There are a number of walking and cycle tracks through the Lagoon Creek area, and in one area there is a historic railway boiler site, not far from Wallace Street North.
One hidden gem is the Lagoon Creek Café and Function Room, which is accessed via Pettigrew Street which passes the Central Lakes Shopping Centre. The Café overlooks the Lagoon Creek area, and as well as having a great café, has excellent facilities for conferences, meetings and similar events.
The Café itself is a social enterprise, established to provide employment for local people with a disability who have challenges entering mainstream workplaces. It is a program of the Caboolture Community Cooperative, through the Better Together program.
Working at the Lagoon Creek Café and Function Room gives individuals an opportunity to learn new skills, and be valued by making a contribution to such an enterprise. Those who know and use this hidden gem are full of praise for the food, coffee and other great services offered. They are keen to promote fresh local foods and use local Auswana Coffee which is grown and prepared at nearby Wamuran.
If you need catering for a function, give them a call and see what great work they are doing in catering services too. Details of their catering is on the website here.
They have a wide range of foods in their catering menu, and the cafe serves sandwiches, burgers, wraps, and a range of other foods. Hot and cold drinks are available, and they have regular special items on the menu.
The Café is at 1-11 Toovey Road, Caboolture and is open from Tuesday to Friday from 9 am to 2.30 pm and is closed on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Public Holidays. Phone 07 5432 4855 to book your function and to make arrangements for catering.
