Charismatic and hilarious, Lady Rizo ensures a good night
New York contemporary cabaret singer and Grammy award winner, Lady Rizo, is making her Australian debut at the Brisbane Powerhouse on the 19th of June. Electric and brazen, Lady Rizo is an explosion of talent and wit.
Lady Rizo (aka Amelia Zirin-Brown) weaves comedy into her stage presence making her an enjoyable and unforgettable watch. Be prepared not just to appreciate a beautiful voice but to laugh at her bawdy and tell all sense of humour. She has a voice that she adapts to each new song played by her musical accompaniment.
The band consists not only of typical members, guitars and drums, but also cellos, violins and other members of an orchestra to create a much more dynamic experience. Rizo also takes a lot of her song choices mostly from pop songs across the last several decades. Each song is tinted with vintage and recreated the Lady Rizo way. These include: Beyonce, the fellow Lady: Lady Gaga, Dolly Parton, Adele, Nine Inch Nails, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Billy Idol and many, many more. She will also usually mock the song and its lyrics throughout her powerful performance.
The show starts at 7:30pm in the Powerhouse Theatre and will entertain you for 90 minutes. Beware, this a fifteen plus event as there is occasional coarse language. Adult tickets are $49 and concession tickets are $39. To accompany her exuberant and charismatic persona, she wears eyelashes that would knock you over (you will see these from the back row), a bee hive that is a throwback to the past, out there earrings and there will be sequins. Lots of sequins. In short: Lady Rizo is a lot of fun and quite a few dashes of crazy. But in a fabulous way that keeps you intrigued and tickles the back of your throat into laughter. Each of her performances are unique and nothing quite like it will be viewed again. Maybe something similar but not quite the same.
This woman can hit definitely the money notes and bring you along with her into her crazy, alluring, humorous and glamorous world. As co-creator of the cult 'caburlesque show', Lady Rizo and the Assettes, Rizo knows her business. As well, she was featured on Moby's track 'Pale Horses'. The world recognizes her talent and awarded her the first ever Cabaret Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Lady Rizo is a highly acclaimed artist who revels in the fact that with cabaret she can look everyone in the audience in the eye. What will she think of you? Maybe you'll find out on June 19th.
