Local Canberran. Reluctant member of the Smashed Avo set. Lover of the classics.
Ladies in Black is a very clever, very funny and very smooth production. The cast is fantastic and the songs - written by Tim Finn of Crowded House - particularly witty.
There's also this sense of familiarity. It's quite refreshing to hear Australian accents on stage and the show's references to 1950s and 60s Sydney still resonate with much of the audience today. I know my parents, both Syndeysiders in the 70s and 80s, would absolutely love it.
More than anything it's the characters that get you. They are each going through their own dramas but at the start of each day they smile, put on the black uniform, and get about their work. I'm sure we all know someone like them too.
You are guaranteed to laugh at this one. It's well worth going to see.
