My husband and I basically did the lucky dip thing. Our only criteria was that it was within walking distance from where we were staying. We were also happy with it being BYO ($11 corkage!), had outdoor seating and friendly and quick service.
We dined here for dinner and the menu had a delicious variety of items to choose from tapas and share plates to seafood and pasta. We started with the Japanese crumbed Calamari ($21) to share. This was simple but crunchy and tasty which my husband quite enjoyed.
The duck was served over a kumara mash with asparagus and an orange and apricot sauce. My husband was impressed with the tender and moist duck and flavours of the sauce. A clean plate back to the chef certainly showed his appreciation. My pasta was equally enjoyed with a good number of king prawns.
The weather was just right for eating al fresco and with a glass or two of red wine, our 'lucky dip' left us both very pleasantly satisfied. We would certainly pass on our recommendations to others for La Vida as a place to eat on Hasting Street.
