La Stazia Cafe

Published September 5th 2011
Train station food is not renowned for being tasty or nutritious. If you're lucky, you might be able to get greasy potato cakes and stale banana bread from your local train station stand. But La Stazia, on platform one of Middle Brighton Railway Station, offers delectible options for the gourmet commuter.

La Stazia Cafe.

Healthy options take precedence on the menu, with fruit available from $1 per piece. Gourmet sandwiches and the soup of the day are $5 each. The hot drinks menu is extensive, with coffee and hot chocolate alongside more exotic choices such as chai tea or latte. They even sell organic cola.

With seating set up just outside the platform and beside the ticket machine, you won't have to awkwardly stand and you enjoy your croissant. Even if you're not taking the train, La Stazia offers a unique experience unlike any other I have seen in Melbourne.

La Stazia is open from 6:30am to 1:00pm Monday through Friday, and 10:00am to 2:00pm on Saturdays.

Where: Platform 1, Middle Brighton Station, Brighton 3186.

Sounds great. Train station food is usually such a disaster. I must check this out next time I'm in the area.
