Captivating opera performance not to be missed
Operantics is Sydney's youngest, freshest company of operatic artists. Following their debut productions from last year, Operantics will continue the 2016 season with the timeless opera, La Sonnambula (The Sleepwalker) by Italian composer, Vincenzo Bellini. La Sonnambula premiered in Milan in 1831 and was an immediate success and has since become a favourite among opera companies worldwide.

La Sonnambula is set in a pastoral village in Switzerland. The villagers are preparing wedding celebrations for Amina and Elvino but when a mysterious stranger arrives, later identified as Count Rodolpho, complications develop. Elvino's spurned former lover, Lisa, is unhappy and schemes to win Elvino back. When Amina is discovered the next morning in the bedchamber of the Count, she protests her innocence. The villagers are shocked. Can she prove her innocence?

From the excitement of young love then rejected by her betrothed for perceived unfaithfulness then despair to overwhelming joy, La Sonnambula was a riveting show. Once the popular girl in the village then scorned by the villagers, the sleep-walking Amina pleads her innocence. Check out the Independent Theatre's Facebook page to reveal the Sydney icons that Amina walks across in her sleep.

The music was brilliant, the singing was powerful and uplifting and the subtitles were helpful. The spectacular costumes are designed by Ian Warwick & Victoria Parsons and the colourful set was designed by Emily Stuart-Jones & Ian Warwick. La Sonnambula is produced by Katie Miller-Crispe, with musical direction from conductor Keiren Brandt-Sawdy and Nathaniel Kong at the piano.

This production features an all-star showcase of young Australian opera talent with Joelene Griffith as Amina, Michael Butchard as Elvino, Christopher Nazarian as Count Rodolfo, Jermaine Chau as Teresa, Katie Miller-Crispe as Lisa, Christopher Curcuruto as Alessio and Daniel Folesi as the Notary.
