La Soiree is circus burlesque with collection of troubadours who bill themselves as a dysfunction family. The audience surrounds the stage inviting participation. In fact, in this case La Soiree it demands it. In Perth audience style – the immediate general response to the ringmasters hype is a bit "well give me reason". But then comes the first laugh and all reasons come . You are captivated, the circus atmosphere dares you to look, the burlesque draws you into the absurd. The ringmaster hypes, the cabaret narrates, the troubadours caricatures your provocateurs. But its not just look see what I can do or a look see at who I am - it is look at we can do, look at who we are. It is a collective experience.



I watched the audience as they marvelled at the strength and structures of the human body, engage in the inappropriate, let go of the logical, delight in the ludicrous and remember how something as simple as watching someone blow a bubble can mesmerise you.

The only thing that I query as to whether La Soiree delivers on the whole dysfunctional family persona. I say this because despite the wrapping of misbehaviours La Soiree provocateurs do remind you that full of wonder is wonderful, some awe is always awesome. And that being so, sometimes what is labelled as dysfunction is really the most functional thing you will see in a long time.
