Delectably hearty affair
Perhaps the student population in St Lucia had kept us away from this area all these years, but since our Edamame experience on Hawken Drive a few weeks ago, we decided to come back. Not having an appetite for anything in particular, we somehow ended up in La Porchetta Italian Restaurant. With a husband who makes a mean pasta and a brother-in-law who makes scrumptious gourmet pizzas, Italian food was probably the last on our list of dining out options. Nevertheless, we sat down in this humble, cosy joint despite being somewhat dubious about the place.

If you come here for a good dose of pizza and pasta, then you've definitely come to the right place as they have copious pizza and pasta selections. Also on the menu are various main meals such as schnitzel, parmigiana, scaloppine, steak as well as seafood, salads and sides. As the past few weeks we've had quite a few pizza nights thanks to the Origin and Socceroos, we both gave pizza a miss and ordered pasta.

We began with garlic bread, which we munched on as oil dripped down onto our chins. Perhaps they did go a little too crazy with the olive oil, but that didn't stop us from us devouring it ravenously. We both ordered cream based pasta (mine chicken and mushroom, his carbonara) with fettuccine. It was very unlike us to order such similar meals because normally we would get two different meals to share. Sharing is caring right? But I guess neither of us were caring that night. Not long after the breads our mains were placed in front of us. The pasta was submerged in thick and creamy sauce, our fettuccine al dente, its aroma potent, it was hearty perfection.

On the whole, it was great value for money, service was quick and friendly, and food was deliciously moreish. With over 20 varieties of pizzas and 16 types of pastas, we'll certainly be back for another hearty affair.

dunno about my old uni - but La Porchetta used to be my top fave pizza take-away in ?Nicholson St, Nth Carlton in Melbourne - with a rotating table oven, they had a rapid queue of customers and used to turn those pizzas out in 4 minutes from order to ready - mmm !
