Who doesn't love all you can eat?
La Porchetta is a well known institution throughout Australia, but the Coolangatta restaurant has a few special offers that I haven't seen anywhere else.
On Tuesday, Friday and Sunday nights La Porchetta offers an all you can eat deal for $12.90. This is an absolute bargain, even after you take into account all the fine print: Each person can only order one dish at a time. You can only order dishes in an entree size. You can only order pastas and traditional pizzas.
The pizza's are a very small size, even ones with The Lot
I was concerned about only being able to order one dish at a time, but was pleasantly surprised by the rapid service of the staff, and the speed with which dishes were brought out.
Given that a single entree sized pasta is $14.50, you really can't lose with this deal. The pizzas are $12.80, but most people eat more than a kids size, 4 piece pizza, so you shouldn't have any trouble at all getting your money's worth.
I was in a group of four, and three of us decided to have the all you can eat special. We ordered multiple pizzas, which were declared delicious, and three different pastas as well. My favourite was definitely the Gnocchi with a pesto sauce. The sauce was made from pine nuts, fresh basil, parsley, garlic and olive oil, blended with cream and parmesan. Probably not all that healthy, but boy was it delicious.
As you can see, the entree pasta dishes are a reasonable size
My second pasta dish was a little disappointing. I chose the Calabrese sauce, made from Italian-style salami, red capsicum, olives, onion and chilli in a Napoletana sauce. It was spicier than I expected, although not overpoweringly so.
Delicious until I found an unfortunate surprise...
Rather the disappointment stemmed from the fact that there was a bit of steel wool in my dish! When I mentioned it to the staff they were extremely polite and concerned. The waitress I spoke to immediately asked if I was hurt at all, and took down the details of the dish it was found in, in order to ensure nothing similar happened to anyone else.
While finding a piece of metal in my dish was not pleasant, I was impressed by the professional manner that it was dealt with, and will definitely be returning to La Porchetta. I'll also be taking advantage of their all you can eat deals.
