Fancy a trip to South America? Well, unless you actually have a flight booked, a trip over to Bexley North Bowling club on a Friday evening is probably one of the next best things. Every week the Argentine Culture Club takes over the venue with a 'La Pena Latina' event. This involves indulging in South American delicacies and dancing to Latin beats all night long

The smokey aroma of the Asado (Argentinian barbeque) floods the hall and will hunger you from the moment you walk in. This is perfect as dinner is first on the agenda for the evening. The menu consists of a selection of exotic, marinated meats awaiting upon the barbecues outside. These include Pollo chicken, chorizo and beef ribs. Another option on the menu for the more adventurous foodie is the 'black pudding', or blood sausage. I'll admit that despite being hesitant to consume blood, I enjoyed the rather salty flavour. The meats are served in generous portions, and are accompanied by salads and bread. Don't forget to add the chili and chimichurri sauces for even more South American flavours.





Sangria, a popular drink in such countries as Spain and Portugal can be purchased from the bar to be relished together with dinner and dancing. This is a wine flavoured by chopped, sweetened fruit. A variety of pastries like fruit tarts are also available for the sweet-tooth following dinner.



Once the meals are over, the lights dim creating the ideal party ambience, and the Latin band hit the stage with a traditional set of songs. Before you know it the dancefloor will be full of people trying their hand at salsa, tango, and other variations of Latin dance. Don't hesitate to join in as the crowd is very welcoming and many of the regulars are willing to help you out in learning the steps. The dancing that lasts until around midnight is a whole lot of fun and transports you to another world; well, the South American world.



This is a family-friendly opportunity so no matter what age you are, put on your dancing shoes and enjoy a night of Latin flavours, and Latin vibes. Just remember that the venue gets pretty full so to ensure a spot for your chosen Friday evening you should book in advance.
