THE FACTS

Notte La Notte is an Italian Restaurant on Lygon Street in Carlton, open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper (until late). La Notte serve Vittoria coffee and function rooms are available which can hold up to 70 people. They also have a bottle shop , and alcohol served at your table is sold at bottle shop prices.

THE EXPERIENCE

I walked along Lygon Street the other day, undecided about where to eat. I asked a waiter at La Notte if he thought I could be served within half an hour (my lunch break from work). "Maybe!" he offered.

I liked the guy's honesty, so I stayed and sat outside under some shade.

A lemon, lime and bitters materialised within minutes.

The menu was extensive, including pastas, gourmet pizzas, seafood, poultry, veal, game, and grilled dishes.

I chose a vegetarian burger with chips and salad:

This was a great meal, but not what I was expecting, because:
The serving size was generous – in some restaurants, fancy seems to come hand-in-hand with tiny portions. The vegetables were combined in something omelette-like – I was expecting layers of sliced veggies, similar to what you might find in a focaccia. The chips looked and tasted like McDonalds fries. It was served within 30 minutes. As expected, however, the flavours played it safe: bread, cheese, sweet chili sauce.
