Situated at the northern part of Mauritius,
La Nicolière is a small lake which is mainly used to supply water for domestic purposes.
Surrounded by nature preserved hillsides, La Nicolière has numerous viewpoints and has become a nature spot where mostly locals like to have a nice afternoon walk to breathe in some fresh air and enjoy the peacefulness of the environment.
At the foot of the hill, locals have improvised some picnic spots on the bank of the reservoir. There is also a small car park nearby.
As you make your way up the hills, you will come across the famous viewpoints where you can admire the astonishing scenic views of sugarcane fields and mountains, like those you are most likely to find on postcards.
When you finally reach at its highest viewpoint, you can admire the lake with its clear water shimmering in the sun and a magnificent mountain range in the background.
Now, isn't this just drop dead gorgeous?
Like the
Black River Gorges , the forest surrounding the lake is nature preserved and wild monkeys and bats can be spotted.
To enjoy the most of your trip, do not forget to bring along a mosquito repellent, especially after the rainy days as the mosquitoes can totally ruin your little afternoon escapade.
