Located in Norwood, La Madeleine is a cafe that specialises in French pastries and dishes such as crepes. In addition to the dishes that can be enjoyed there, the cafe also makes cakes and tarts in various sizes to suit the numbers you are catering for.

Great for a light lunch, the crepe that formed a key part of their savoury crepes had a delightful light texture, and the fried egg filling made it a bit more filling. The smoked salmon in the Coquette crepe we chose had a smoked flavour, and was complemented nicely by the sweet sundried tomatoes and avocado. All their savoury crepes are gluten-free.

The combination of bacon, ham and prosciutto in the Cochon Crepe gave the dish a delectable smoky flavour, complemented nicely by tomato chutney. All their crepes come with a small salad to add an element of freshness. We chose to have the cheese served separately so we can add as much as we want to the dish.

While we would have preferred their Almond Croissant to be warmed slightly prior to being served, the pastry still had a delectable buttery taste. A generous topping of toasted almonds provided a crunchy element to the pastry. However, it was not the Almond Croissant we expected as it did not have the delicious almond cream filling.

The plain appearance of the Pistachio Croissant belied its filling of pistachio cream. Also included as part of the filling were raspberries to provide a hint of tartness. A slight dusting of icing sugar completed the dish.

The décor gave the café a cosy and relaxed feel. If you are looking for a place to enjoy French pastries and dishes, consider giving La Madeleine a visit.
