If you haven't tried an authentic Italian gelato from La Macelleria you need to write them down on your do to list. The shop is owned by two Matteos (Casone and Zine), who trained at the Gelateneo (gelato school) in Italy.

The shop has modern décor with white, red and black branding. It is located on Florence Street in Teneriffe. The location used to be home to a butcher's shop, so the owners named their place La Macelleria (the butchery).

I usually order the cioccolato which is Italian for chocolate. A decadent blend of 80% pure cocoa with the perfect balance of ingredients. Today I wanted two scoops, so I added an extra flavour of bacio (chocolate and hazelnuts).

The gelatos and ice creams are churned fresh every day using natural ingredients. There are no artificial flavouring, preservatives or powders. The flavours range from the caffe (coffee), vaniglia (vanilla), pistachio, tiramisu, cookies and salted caramel.

The sorbet have a short ingredients list with just water, sugar and over 50 per cent fresh fruit. The sorbet choices are based on seasonal fruit so they change regularly.

You can also pick up an espresso to take away, or order a gelato and semifreddo cake. There are regular workshops to learn about the gelato process with a one-litre takeaway pack included.

If you love eating authentic gelato and want to be transported back to the beautiful Italian country then La Macelleria is the place to visit.

Highly recommended.
