Sydney's 'Little Italy', Leichhardt, is a charming inner west suburb well known to all for its array of Italian restaurants. The main street, Norton street, is full of cafes and restaurants, and will leave anyone spoilt for choice.

Our choice for the day was La Giara situated in the Italian Forum. (Towards the back corner on the left, sometimes slightly hard to locate). The Forum is a modern residential complex with shopping and restaurants on the ground floor. The marble fountain, overhearing voices speaking in Italian and the balconies of the apartments surely reminded me of streets and corners in Italy. To top the' Italianess' (if there is ever a word like that) of the place, there is a store in the forum called Merchant of Venice that sells bright and vibrant Venetian masks. It's a beautiful sight for sure.

As we walked past the marble fountain, we reached La Giara, a family run restaurant. Apart from the pictures on the walls of famous places and monuments in Italy, the restaurant doesn't really scream Italian (unlike the suburb that feels like a street in Italy).

We went for the very standard Bruschetta and Insalata Caprese but surely loved every bite of it. The salad was well seasoned and the fresh mozzarella was a highlight. It left the palette happy and craving for more.

I can't go past Risotto's when I think Italian, therefore a Risotto ai Funghi was surely my pick. My partner went for a pasta which was pretty good too.

The desserts were probably the least impressive on that day. It was not plated up well and the taste did not excite us very much.

The Lemon torte was probably better than then Tiramisu, however not sensational.

I'd probably say they served homestyle food, topped with good service in a cosy environment.
