There is nothing better than having fun and relaxing with a day filled with shopping, brunch and simply having a nice conversation with your friend. I had the most amazing time on Sunday when we decided to pay a visit to Queen Victoria Market. I really wanted to go and browse through the stalls and find some reasonable and cute gifts for my friends and family. While we were going through the sheds, nestled away in a corner of the F shed we came across a very cute cafe which was influenced by the Latin American culture. The absolutely fabulous ambiance, the pulsating music and the aroma of delicious food just kept pulling us in.

La Cantina, as the place is called, has been around for the past five years. The owners have a family business and have run the Spanish donuts truck at the market since 1976. The very first thing one would notice about the place is the smiling face of the owner Christian Silva, who conceptualized the cafe and planned the decor himself. As I wanted to try out the best dishes they had on the menu, Christian was the best person to ask. He is friendly, knows how to make his customers smile and recommends the best dishes to suit your taste buds.

After having a small chat with Christian, we decided to order Con Palta or a steak burger. Priced at $10 this burger was simply delicious. The burger contains churrasco (grilled beef), guacamole and mayo. It has been described as one of the yummiest steak burger one can find with the burst of spices and the fresh guacamole. One cannot stop at polishing off just one burger. The memory of the speed with which my friend devoured the burger can make my mouth water at the drop of a hat; I wish I ate beef.

To make my tummy growl with hunger at the thought of La Cantina, I crave their yummy Arepos; wheat free corn tortillas with a filling of chicken, mushroom, feta and guacamole. Arepos are priced at $10 as well and not only is it filling it is simply delicious, I added the spicy habanero sauce that they have and it was nirvana for me. We ordered Jarritos to accompany the meals and at $5.5 for each drink. We had the best brunch we could have asked for.

La Cantina is definitely worth a visit. They operate on market days and work the same hours. They also serve alcohol and coffee and have a nice menu to cater for everyone. They have seating indoors as well as outside where you can enjoy the hustle bustle of the market while enjoying a good meal. If you are all by yourself, you will most certainly enjoy a good conversation with the staff and the owner. In my books, the place definitely calls for multiple visits because it is a treasure trove of fabulous food, drinks, coffee and decor. They also have a cute display of the donut truck and little replica of the truck and the family which will make you smile.
