Opera Australia brings Puccini's opera La Bohème to the Arts Centre for the month of May, premiering on May 3 until the 28th.

A much loved opera and the inspiration for the modern musical 'Rent' La Bohème celebrates love, friendship, loss and heartbreak. Set in 1930's Berlin, the opera is performed in Italian with English surtitles.

With the setting of war torn Europe as its backdrop and the glittering Cafe Momus in stark contrast to the struggles of the bohemian lifestyle, La Bohème is the story of Rodolfo who is tragically in love with Mimì, Marcello who is angry with Musetta and plenty of love, sacrifice, laughter and tragedy.

La Bohème, written over 120 years ago is still one of the world's favourite and most performed operas. For opera lovers, it's a classic they're certain to love and for first-time opera-goers, a joy to experience.

Gale Edwards' production returns to Melbourne and includes the talent of international stars Lianna Haroutounian and Gianluca Terranova, conducted by Andrea Molino. The opera runs for 2 hours and 15 minutes including interval.
