La Bohème is perhaps Adelaide's only cocktail and cabaret bar that not only provides both attractions in the same venue but combines the two so seamlessly. Located across from the central markets La Bohème's inconspicuous 1940's inspired shop front hides one of Adelaide's great drinking secrets.

Walking through the front door is always a treat as the hustle and bustle of the city is washed away by smooth cabaret music. The bar is the first thing you see well stocked and well lit it provides an immediate feeling of professionalism, grace and comfort.

The walls surrounding the bar are covered in chalk board menu's that are a constantly changing amalgamation of wine lists and cocktails. Various specials such as "absolute 8's" provide a blue chip standard of cocktail making at an affordable eight dollars. However if you're feeling up to lashing out there is always an excellent cocktail menu that comes with recommendations from the seasoned bartenders who are on bar. I would personally recommend the "Vespa" a gin martini crafted from the exact recipe laid out by James Bond himself in Ian Fleming's Casino Royal.

Moving from the bar you explore the rest of the space with vintage chairs and tables, heavy curtains and mood lighting it provides a cosy space for romance, well deserved after work drinks or catching up with old friends over a whiskey. This space also contains the Stage where the cabaret aspect of La Bohème really comes to life. La Bohème flourishes on a Sunday where there is always something new and exciting. With shows running constantly, any time before or after the Fringe festival is a great time to get in and see some new talent in an more intimate venue.

All the different areas are available for hire for functions at various rates and often include your own personal bartender for the night and an optional drinks package. All the areas have there own charms, however, my first choice would be the "La Ruelle". This outside area can easily accommodate 20 people and with no costs for an informal booking, this is a perfect spot for a drink before a show.
