La Belle Miette marked the beginning of my quest for the best macarons during my little getaway in Melbourne recently. The name of the cosy patisserie specialising in is macarons translated as "small beautiful things" in English. As owner Maylynn described, "I love that they are a small luxury, and I think they are so pretty!". Indeed, her statement is rather true.

The display cupboards and macaroon boxes are all in soft pastel colours of pinks and blues, channelling a distinct French flair. In fact, its founder Maylynn Tsoi had received actual training and years of experience in pastry art in Paris. Further, the exquisite interior design that features white wall panels, lace iron tables and light marble bench tops with adorable French confections on display, were all contributed by Maylynn's exceptional ideas.

From their current menu of 16 different types of beautiful flavours, I had chosen Caramel a la Fleur de Sel, Cherry Blossom & Sake, Hazelnut Belle Miette, Pimm's & Pomegranate, Raspberry, and Bastille, which is made from Moet et Chandon and Blackcurrant.

La Belle Miette has truly been keeping up its standards. The light and airy texture of the macarons attributed to the finest ingredients used in production including the best quality almonds for smooth domed crusts and Girgar butter, a premium Australian dairy for the filling.

Cherry Blossom & Sake is a special creation that incorporates a rare extract sourced originally from Japan, where it has a very mild flavour. However, I am better impressed by Bastille. Its soft flavour of Moet et Chandon accompanied by the lightly sweet Blackcurrant jam embedded within a layer of cream, has led to an undeniably unique end result. On the other hand, Caramel a la Fleur de Sel is absolutely palatable. As a general favourite, it has a perfectly rich and tangy salted butter caramel flavour that I simply could not get enough of, and definitely deserves the hype.

Those wonderful little delights are instant mood-lifters. I love them so much that I had to return to the shop in the afternoon to pick up some more for myself and my friend. I had Olive Oil & Vanilla and Pistachio added into my previous collection during the second round, and I especially adore the tender and soothing flavours of Olive Oil & Vanilla. At a price of $2.5 each, they are highly accessible luxuries.

With the increasing popularity of dainty French delicacies at recent times, I am confident that it would emerge as the one of the most dear and thoughtful gift for greeting your lovely friends, or pampering your beloved ones.
