Beautiful, sunny days and warm weather encourage everyone into the 'great outdoors' and, for those families with children, that spells 'beach' or 'playground'. The Kurrawa All Abilities Playground, overlooking the surf at Broadbeach and opposite The Oasis Centre, combines both.

This fully-fenced play environment encourages children of all ages and abilities to explore, try something new, expend loads of energy and interact with others. The unique playspace was created as a joint project of the Gold Coast City Council and Disability Services and was awarded State Prize in the 2011 Inclusive Community Champion Awards. But for kids, it just means FUN!

Plenty of seating for parents and carers is available and shady pathways link three main activity areas. A huge sandcastle area and ramp is immediately obvious with large sandpits and tables. There are oversized starfish, hermit crabs and other sea creatures with water jets for added sand fun. Tables are raised to allow wheelchair access. Not quite so obvious are the talking tubes for children to communicate over some distance with each other.

An underwater zone surrounded by shady trees contains a giant yellow submarine that overflows with children who climb through and over it and the other creatures- giant sea snake, fish and more.

The third area is the hill filled with slides and swings, a flying fox, spring toys and spinning cups. Specially fitted seats with harnesses are provided on some of the swings to allow even little ones or those who need a little assistance to enjoy with safety. Some of the children zip along the paths here on their scooters.

An important aspect of this park is the amenities block which has been particularly designed for those with special needs and to assist their families.

This really is a playground for all children of all ages and all abilities. But the fun doesn't stop when you leave. A virtual game has been developed online to extend the fun and entertaining activities at home. You can visit the website [LINK=http://www.allabilitiesplayground.net.au/]here./LINK]
