I love hiking, travel, photography, art, and looking for peaceful places in a busy cityscape. I'm also dabbling in some travel writing - https://tinamaleela.home.blog

Where kale and coffee come together
Whether it's kale or coffee, you'll find it at Kuraby Farmers Markets without fighting the crowds.

Freshly picked apples from Stanthorpe.

This hidden gem in Brisbane's southside is convenient, accessible and in a small, friendly setting. If you're looking for fresh vegetables, that morning coffee hit, a cleansing breakfast (nudie juice) or a hangover brunch (footlong German sausage), this may be the place for you. And while you're there, you may get to do some early Christmas shopping for that "hard-to-buy-for" aunt or in-law. You'll thank yourself later for not having to set foot in a manic Westfield mall in December.

Fresh harvest

Fresh market produce.

You'll find stalls, large and small, selling a wide selection of everyday fruit and vegetables (potatoes, pumpkin, apples, bananas), herbs (lemongrass, turmeric, Australian garlic, coriander, Thai basil), and less common vegetables like banana flowers, flat leaf kale, white corn, purple taro and fennel. Some stalls are focused on particular items such as tomatoes only, or apples from Stanthorpe, or just eggs. The avocado stall has Mt Tamborine fruit - ask for a taste test to see which variety takes your fancy before buying a bulk pack.

Other specialty stalls have honey and bee products, as well as berries and mangoes, and there is a gourmet meat van.

Breakfast or brunch, anyone?

At the rear of the markets, you'll find a host of food and beverages on offer: Turkish gozlemes, grilled German sausages, Asian street food, calamari, refreshing iced teas, fruit juice made to order, coffee and doughnuts. And why not take home some treats from Dullah's (specialty cakes, gourmet biscuits and savoury snacks)? The pink snowballs, a South African recipe, is highly recommended.

Handmade and unique

For that "difficult to buy for" person, it's worth browsing at:

Stick Art Gallery - Aboriginal artwork by artist/owner Wanthala Connors and other local artists. The ready-to-hang pieces are affordable and part of a revolving gallery of decorative vases, tiles and other art.

Tex Timbers - Terry and Jackie produce furniture, cutting boards and turned wooden pieces out of beautiful Australian timber.

Great gift ideas from Tex Timbers.

Other interesting stalls were selling funky wooden-framed sunglasses, handmade bags, all-natural dog treats (Boxer and the Beagle) and paleo food.

Poppy's favourite market stall - Boxer and the Beagle.

The Kuraby Farmers Markets are located next to Kuraby Train Station. FREE parking is available on-site.
