Turning Japanese @ Kumo Izakaya
Kumo Izakaya restaurant and bar is set amongst Lygon Street, but you have to come down this way to East Brusnwick. I believe Kumo just turned 1 year old just this year. Walk inside and let them delight you in the many tapas like dishes on offer that you can share.
Tatami Room
Tatami Room

We had a grand event to celebrate and it was the Tatami room that we booked for the 6 of us - this private room could take 10. A private dining experience / domain of our own, seated in a sunk-in floor with table at chest hight depending on your length, we sat bright eyed and excited to taste the food, as I knew it would be good from previous visits.

They were very accommodating as we could chose our own set menu. There is a large selection and it came beautifully presented. Well, we ate seared scallops with butter and soy, which were topped with bonito flakes, roasted duck fillets with slow cooked daikon, haccho miso sauce with lotus root chips, that and more the dishes kept coming. In between, we drank sake which was happily warmed for us on request.

For dessert, we requested the sake gelati dessert which hits the spot, as its cool and light, complimenting the meal nicely.

We all had a wonderful evening. At the end, the birthday boy turned Japanese wearing a samurai headband, fashioned out of some streamers that were bought for the occassion.
Only downside about the Tatami room was that it was too close to the kitchen but otherwise lots of stars go to this restaurant.
