The whimsical and wonderful wildflowers are coming out to play. The weather is just starting to show the sparkling sun of Spring approaching and with that comes the wildflowers blooming. Come and be a part of the flower flourishing fun at the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden for the Festival of Wildflowers , Sunday the 26th of August, 9am to 4pm. With "Families in Nature" the theme for this year there'll be plenty of natural delights for the whole family to explore.

Whether you come as a family, bring some friends or have a romantic Sunday out with your partner, there'll be plenty to keep you occupied. To get the circulation going in this sometimes brisk weather, you can head off around the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden on a guided bush walk, with experts on plants, insects and animals letting you in on all the secrets. After being introduced to all the native treasures, you'll be able to get your hands on some native plants of your very own at the Australian Plants Society flower display and stall.

Like a lot of kiddies, when I was a child, educational activities weren't always the biggest drawcard for me to be encouraged to come on a day out. However, when it came to the first activities I participated in to do with nature, I have been hooked ever since. While now I won't necessarily be found in the craft corner, I absolutely adore the wildlife displays, especially when you can get involved and hold a cool, calm and collected Bearded Dragon or give a pretty possum a pat.

Native animal presentations from Australian Wildlife Displays will get you up close and personal with the furry friends you can find in our local bush lands, or if you're like me, right in your own backyard. It's not unusual to go into my yard and see a quirky little scrub turkey pottering around and there's a resident possum who enjoys our back veranda.

If the kids feel like getting a bit scientific, they can head to the large marquee where they'll find the CSIRO Young Scientists stall, with hands-on activities for 4 - 12 year olds. If that's not quite up their alley, they can head across the marquee to the Bush Kids Craft Corner where they'll find free nature craft activities for the 2 - 12 year olds.

If you find yourself feeling a tad tuckered out after all that, be sure to bring a picnic basket as there are lovely picnic areas for you to lay out your blanket and have a bite to eat. If you forget your goodies, have no fear as there'll be a couple of food stalls for you to grab a snack at too.

If you do bring the whole family along, just be sure to leave one member of the family at home on this occasion, as dogs aren't allowed (except guide dogs), due to the Wildflower Garden being a wildlife protection area.

With all sorts of interesting natural wonders to learn about and discover, you're sure to have an informative and fun day out. The Festival of Wildflowers is on rain or shine, so get everyone together for a relaxing day soaking up nature.
