Grand opening sets world record for doughnut sales
Thousands of people waited patiently in line for the official opening of Perth's first Krispy Kreme Doughnut store on 26 November. With the surrounding carpark cordoned off and an ambulance onsite, even lightning nearby didn't damper the enthusiasm as the orderly crowd slowly inched their way towards the front door. Everyone in line received a free doughnut to tease their appetite.

Some even camped out for up to three nights just to be amongst the very first Perth people to get their hands on a hot doughnut.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, an American idea which started in 1937, has been on the east coast of Australia for several years. During those years Perthites would fly home from their eastern states holidays loaded with cartons of those tasty Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

The creamy flavour attacts followers throughout the world.

The store which is located at Whitfords City Shopping Centre in Hillarys, is the first of several planned to be opened across Perth.

Doughnuts range in price from $3 a single up to $24 for the mixed dozen. Coffee and shakes are also available.

The store is open normal shopping hours but the drivethru is open 24 hours, seven days a week for those who can't wait through the night for their sugar fix.

They will also be available at 7-Eleven stores opening up across Perth in the near future.

No. Apparently the first few got a year's supply of free doughnuts. Embrace the burgeoning obesity epidemic!
