[ADVERT]The city is known for having oddities tucked in laneways, but usually that "hidden" café is doing an even worse job of hiding than my cat when she jumps behind the couch. She pretends that you can't see her, but we both know that her tail sticking out is a dead giveaway.

Likewise, you can usually hear the clinking of coffee cups or you may even spot some conspicuous awning on coffee shops purporting to be one of Melbourne's secrets. Not so with converted warehouse café Krimper . You would never think to walk down drab Guildford Lane off Queen Street, let alone turn the corner to find the entrance to Krimper. If you see the doors, you may not even realise that there's a sprawling café tucked inside.

Open the door to reveal a roomy, rustic café, famed for its coffee amongst the select few who are aware of its existence. Yes, they do have food as well, but you'll notice that those who populate it are mainly sipping on hot beverages. Maybe you've seen city-dwellers protectively onto their disposable coffee cups with the distinctive Krimper logo.

I popped in for a quick hot chocolate (multiple coffees in one day never ends well). It was scanty in size and high in price at $4.50, but other than that, there are no complaints from me. To be fair, I was too busy marvelling at their quaint interior to fully appreciate the flavour.

Oddly enough, while Krimper has no Eftpos minimum in dollars, they do require that you purchase at least two items if paying on card. With an assortment of sweet slices and cookies, it's the perfect excuse to get a snack to go with your hot drink.
