If you've got kids who enjoy crafts, then you'll love the concept of Krafty Kidz, where the mess stays far, far away from your home.

The general concept at Krafty Kids is that it's a drop in art centre, where parents can come with their children and get creative. There are 3-4 art stations set up, all with different craft elements on them. All of the materials are provided, including smocks and aprons, so it's literally a case of showing up and getting inspired.

I recently visited with a friend and between us we had a 4 and 3 year old and the crafts really suited this age range. On our visit, the kids were able to get involved in painting, cutting and glueing, bead art and stamping. There were 4 different art stations set up and children could go to whichever stations they wanted to, choosing the craft of their preference. There were also a couple of stations set up for playdoh and threading (shoe laces), which were lots of fun for the kids.

Patient staff are on hand in the centre, and were ready to help out with assisting kids to create their mini masterpieces. They also assisted with ironing the bead arts and assisting with creating designs. This was a very popular activity for the children, and a great idea if kids want to make a keepsake for a friend or relative.

The cost of the session is $9 and this includes the 3-4 craft stations that are on offer at the time of your visit. Crafts change daily so you can visit many times and still provide your child with something new to try. In addition to the crafts on offer, there were additional craft kits available for purchase starting at around $4.

If you're seeking refreshments during your visit, there is a small cafe on the premises, and prices are very reasonable with hot drinks from $3 and kids drinks available from $2. There was a lovely selection of sweet treats if you need something to nibble on with your latte.

For older kids, there are a range of after school (and weekend) classes which last around 4 weeks, providing your child with some great art tuition in an area of their interest. Current classes include card making, scrapbooking, jewellery making and painting. Classes run for 2 hours and parents can drop their child off at the centre for the duration of the class. These 4 week classes start from $70 a child and includes all materials used in the classes with all classes including take home items.

For birthday parties, Krafty Kidz have a couple of gazebos that they can set up indoors to create a unique party zone. Prices range from $10-$22 a child dependent upon your catering options.

Overall

This is a great activity centre for children, where they'll get to experience a number of different crafts all in one morning or afternoon. We stayed for about 2 hours and within that time, my 4 year old completed 2 paintings, 2 collages and 2 bead art pieces. He thoroughly enjoyed being able to go from station to station, being free to do whatever he wanted. The crafts on offer during our visit were ideally suited to 3-5 year olds, but if you've got a younger child who enjoys painting and colouring, then I imagine they'd also enjoy this craft haven.

This would also be a great option for a rainy day or when the temperature creeps up into the 40's. The air conditioning on our visit was a great respite.
