Located just outside the perimeters of national art meccas, it is always a surprise to get a glimpse at international-quality extraordinary art (together with a chance to talk with the artists themselves) here on the Gold Coast - and Kozik Art is just that.
Currently located temporarily at the Carrara markets, Kozik Art is a bright little space in a free-standing building that is hard to miss with its bright red interior walls, and colourful paintings that are so luminous that they almost fly off the walls! Parking at Carrara Markets is always pretty easy earlier in the morning, so definitely try to get there before 10am, or alternatively, much later in the afternoon, especially if you have children and don't want to waste 30 minutes trying to find a parking spot!
On the day that we had a chance to talk to the artists, Carol-Ann and Rainer, they did say that the current location is temporary but that their new locations are always available online at Kozik Art and also on Facebook
As a huge lover of surrealism and abstract art that is both meaningful and relatable, it was a small slice of heaven to have the opportunity to peruse the beautiful pieces of art available for purchase at Kozik Art. Reminiscent of painters such as Salvador Dali, most of Rainer's paintings art in bright, almost iridescent reds, oranges and yellows, with colourful characters such as flying elephants and jewelled moons sitting along a back-drop of gorgeous sea coast-lines.
Rainer explained that he was selling his pieces to fund the publication of his children's book, which was based on a complex back-story of characters that he had brought to life through intricate pieces that he described as 'almost steampunk' - referring to an art style where art is constructed from scrap metal and other abstract objects.
For those who know me, customer service and family-friendliness is at the absolute top of my priority list for any service or business. Especially as we homeschool, and our children are with us almost everywhere that we go!
As parents and homeschoolers it was a really lovely experience for our children to speak with two incredible artists - Rainer, the author, illustrator, and painter, and Carol-Anne, artist and clothes designer of wearable art, who spent over half an hour of their time passionately explaining their art pieces to our teenage son. In addition, there is plenty of children's and teen's wearable art available for purchase.
For those with families and little children (like us!) our decision-making for visiting interesting shops and markets is heavily influenced by the proximity to toilets and food - and at the current Carrara Markets, toilets and eating places abound. The facilities are quick to access, clean and never crowded. And there is a huge variety of food, ranging from fresh market produce to cooked food to suit most families.
Painting range from about $45 to $450 per piece, so the smaller pieces would be great for a hard-to-buy for friend or creative, whereas the larger pieces would be perfect for a statement piece to light up a musical / creative / entertainment space in your home. Ps.If I won to lottery tomorrow, I would be buying them out!
Wow - Wow - Wow!!! Thanks so much Allira, this is such a wonderful article and it has given the two of us a much needed boost in our confidence. Hope to see you again soon, kindest regards, Carol & Rainer xx
