When I'm craving for ramen,
Ippudo is usually my go-to place, but there are only four of them in New South Wales. Recently, however, I stumbled upon at the Westpoint Shopping Centre in Blacktown and it was a good find.
Located on Level 4 (the rooftop where the cinemas are), Kou has plenty of seating indoors, but the tables outside in an alfresco setting makes more sense in these times when the coronavirus is lurking everywhere.
Serving authentic Japanese and Korean food, has the usual starters and sides, of course, ramen, donburi, salad and dessert. Ramen is a Japanese noodle soup dish topped with meat and vegetables and comes in a range of broths. The creamy, rich broth for Kou's tonkotsu ramen is pork bone simmered for at least 10 hours seasoned with garlic, ginger, onion and shallot in the original Japanese tradition.
For dessert, Kou's hotteok is an authentic Korean sweet pancake that will make you crave for more of the pan-fried crispy shell filled with the sweet gooey indulgence of caramelised sugar and nuts topped with vanilla ice cream.
