When you want to enjoy some Korean fare, head over to 6 St. Mark's Place in the East Village section of Manhattan, which is home to New York Tofu House . Take a break from your sightseeing or work duties, and taste a bit of Korea's flavorful food culture.

As you walk through the entryway towards the dining area, don't forget to take note of some items associated with traditional Korean garb, such as the kid-size accessories in bright yellows, pinks, reds and greens, pinned onto wood-framed panels.

A quick scan of their menu offerings shows that as the venue's name implies, you'll find Korean silken tofu prepared in a number of ways. A variety of these dishes are perfect for the vegetarians in your party. There's fried tofu with sweet and sour sauce, tofu fritters with peanut sauce, mushrooms and peppers stuffed with tofu and vegetables, plus marinated tofu served sitting atop fried rice.

For those who love Kimchi, your table will be filled with the customary and complimentary starter plates of fermented vegetables, including cucumbers, radishes and cabbage, seasoned in mostly-spicy flavors.

If you're keen on having a spicy dish that is served hot enough that it's still sizzling when it arrives at your table, try their Beef SoonDubu, which is silken Tofu with a savory stew (can be requested as mild.) Spoon a small portion of this spicy dish over the rice that comes with your order, and enjoy.

Ask the server for details on the daily stew specials, another sizzling entrée, which you also combine with your rice.

Try an order of crispy Korean pancake for a contrast in texture and flavors.

Other options include the Bul Kogi Doshirak, which among other items, features very thin slices of marinated sirloin served with onions.

How about Galbi Doshirak, a dish that highlights beef short ribs marinated in a special house sauce?

There's also their seafood Dolpan, which comprises of rice, plus sautéed and seasoned vegetables served in a traditional Korean hot stone plate.

As you can see, there are so many choices to sate your curiosity. So the next time you come across a staff member in front of New York Tofu House stirring something to be given out as samples, ask for a portion.

It may be just what you've been craving, or something new for you to try. Then step inside for a memorable experience with spices and flavors, Korean style.
