First on the list is ChangGo. Hidden on Little La Trobe Street, it is often overlooked during the day but as night falls it starts to bustle with hungry eaters queuing up for their specialty -8 Flavour Pork BBQ Set.

The next stop is NeNe Chicken. NeNe Chicken is a franchise based Korean eatery with a number of stores all round Melbourne including Melbourne Central, Elizabeth Street, Box Hill, High Point and Chadstone. So no matter where you are you have full access to freshly made fried chicken! NeNe Chicken as the name suggests, specialises in chicken-there are many flavours to cater to everyone's needs –snowing cheese, oriental green onion, lemon, snowing vegetably, lemon, garlic, boneless chicken and the list goes on. If you are truly up for the challenge you might want to try their 'freaking hot' flavoured fried chicken.

Chimac Plus
Chimac Plus is a unique little Korean restaurant just 11 minutes from the Melbourne CBD. Located on Victoria street, it is easily accessible by train, tram or car. What makes Chimac unique is its Mexican-Korean fusion; they offer a range of fusion foods including burritos, tacos and fried chicken so that you can enjoy both Mexican and Korean at the same time.

Guhng
Guhng offers a slightly different experience, it is a characteristic Korean BBQ restaurant situated on McKillop Street one of Melbourne's charming laneways. The restaurant spans 3 levels and has a traditional vibe as well as a cosy and romantic atmosphere. There are different seating arrangements making it suitable for small groups, big groups and even functions.

There are a number of options to choose from or if you want to try a bit of everything they have two banquet options - $65 per person or $75 per person option which will cover you from starters, mains (charcoal bbq) and of course dessert.

Gami
When you feel the craving for beer and fried chicken –Gami is the go to place. Gami has expanded from their early days as a small eatery hidden on Little Lonsdale Street to various outlets around Melbourne including Box Hill, Hawthorn, Knox, Fountain Gate, Carnegie and King Street.

Chicklia
Chicklia is one of the hidden gems of Glen Waverley. There are so many food choices it's easily overlooked but once you've been here you definitely will be back. Chicklia is accessible through the back of a Korean Asian grocery & gifts shop or from the alleyway of Glenway Arcade which also adds to the mystery of this cosy little restaurant. There are limited seating of about 5 to 6 tables but the service is always prompt, friendly and welcoming. Whilst it is such a small restaurant, the range of food is the same as any Korean restaurant three times its size!

Tteok-bokki or stir-fried rice cakes is a popular Korean dish. The rice cakes are usually long, white and cylindrical in shape and are commonly served with fish cakes, boiled eggs and scallions. A popular way to serve tteok-bokki is topped with melted cheese.

Don't Tell Mama Shhh

While we are not short of Korean restaurants around Melbourne CBD, it's not that easy to find a good one out in the suburbs. One that stands out well in the Eastern suburbs is 'Don't Tell Mama...Shhh'. Not your typical Korean restaurant name but definitely one that you will remember.

The layout of the restaurant is quite spacious with a number of entertainment features including the wall decor and a projector playing Korean music videos while you enjoy your meal.



A popular Korean dish is the seafood pancake –A light flour pancake consisting of seafood and spring onions.




On weekdays they also offer a lunch menu which includes a meal and a drink for as little as under $10. A must stop if you're finding yourself hungry and looking for a quick fix.

There are more options than only Vietnamese food on Victoria Street –if you're ever in Richmond, check Seoul Soul out. It is a quaint restaurant with a modern industrial interior design. A must try are their nutritious bimbimbap bowls -ranging in veggie, avocado, pork, chicken and beef.

Right opposite the busy Victoria Market you will find Donwoori, a small Korean BBQ restaurant. The service is friendly with staff offering to help you cook your BBQ meat. A must try are their BBQ sets which include different cuts of meat, vegetables, rice and Korean stew.
