Konnigans Cafe is a hidden gem of a cafe in Kelvin Grove, an inner northern suburb just 3km from Brisbane's central business district. Named after Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow, Scotland, this hilly suburb is primarily residential in nature with some commercial and light industrial activities along its main road, Kelvin Grove Road. One of these industrial saturated streets is the very street on which Konnigans Cafe sits, blending in flawlessly with its neighbours!
Despite being on an industrial street, the street itself appears relatively quiet and as such, Konnigans Cafe exhibits a relaxed and comfortable ambience. The seating is cosy and spacious, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. Outdoor seating utilises simple and plain tables and chairs, which gives off a wonderful no-frills vibe - this only adds to the relaxed ambience of this little eatery. All of the outside tables are protected by the sun through the use of a large canopy, providing for a cool environment even during the hot summer months. Oh and of course, Konnigans Cafe is dog-friendly as long as you and your pooch opt to sit outside - water bowl and fresh drinking water is provided free of charge!
There is also plenty of indoor seating options to choose from, from a comfortable couch to more traditional cafe choices of tables and chairs. One of the best things about the indoor seating at Konnigans Cafe is that you can head upstairs to the second-floor gallery, where there is even more seating with a great view of the street outside - it's almost like having a lookout within a cafe!

Konnigans Cafe offers a wide range of food choices for customers - to be more specific, they have four whole pages worth of food items to choose from! This includes a "build your breakfast" option that is available all day, which is the perfect choice for those who like having a full breakfast but perhaps are not terribly keen on certain items that usually come with 'Big Breakfasts'! Konnigans Cafe's menu is then further categorised into 'Healthy Options', 'Something More Substantial', 'Sweet & Sexy', 'Chef Recommended', and 'For The Bubs' for those visiting with little ones. With gluten free options available too, there really is something to suit all stomach sizes, tastebuds, and wallets!
Konnigans Cafe's drinks menu is as impressive as its food menu, with two whole menu pages packed with a seemingly endless choice of beverages. Choose from coffee the way you like it (including cold brews), loose leaf teas, iced chocolate, fruit frappes, milkshakes, and a range of smoothies such as 'Protein Powerhouse', 'Berry Blast', 'Mocha Mayhem', 'The Garden', 'Immune Booster', and 'Bloody V4'. There are also more beverage options available at the counter.
How did you find the food and drink at Konnigans Cafe?
Between two people and a dog, we ordered:
Peri Peri Chicken Burger (tender peri peri chicken, fried egg, mesclun, tomato, onion, cheddar and aioli, served with beer battered chips) - Chef Recommended ($10.90)
Cold Brew - Milk ($5.50)
Iced Coffee - double espresso served with vanilla ice cream ($5.50)
Water - free!
The chicken in the burger was fresh and succulent, done well but not overcooked - and don't get me started on how good the chips were! The cold coffees were a great remedy for a hot summer's day, with the perfect blend of bitter and sweet.
