What do you do when you own 25 Kombi vans? Terry Baker, fabulous Goolwa Florist and champion Dragon Boat paddler, decided to open the '' to further indulge his passion. It's an alternative, help-yourself coffee shop and you'll find it towards the back of Flowerworx on Goolwa's main street.

It is housed in an auspicious building known as The Bow Fronted Shop, one of the few remaining bow-fronted buildings in all of Australia. Believed to have been built around 1850 as a baker's shop, it has been filled with luscious flowers for the past few years.

Sixty VW enthusiasts gathered there in April for the grand opening of the . They enjoyed live music, finger food and good coffee in a number of different sitting areas, including a real-life Kombi in the garden.

The main emphasis here is to relax and have fun so naturally the garden features a basketball net and hopscotch.

Inside there's a retro lounge room (lime green) with boardgames to play and colouring books (both adult's and children's versions) to doodle in while listening to vinyl on an original radiogram. There's also a retro Pac-Man game desk.

I was impressed by the coffee when I paid a visit recently. It's 'serve yourself' and from a machine, but the beans are Italian and the flavour is good. 'People are funny about their coffee' Terry said. Well yes, of course we are, good coffee, good life, I always say, and Terry's coffee is good.

There are biscuits and snacks and the cupcakes are made locally (Goolwa is a Cittaslow and we pride ourselves on all things local), and, of course, they are VW-themed. You can choose a treat to enjoy with your coffee (or tea) and pay as you leave.

Then there's the 'Kombi Shop' with more VW paraphernalia than you could imagine; cushions, beanies, jewellery, radios, CD players, Kombi-shaped chocolates and hand-made Kombi greeting cards.

I love it when I find affordable trinkets, like greeting cards, to take home but there are good quality, higher priced items too, including Kombi art.

The is open Monday to Saturday 10am till 4pm. Park your Kombi out the front or in the carpark, on Loveday Street, behind the shop.
