The is a unique tribute to the bravery of Australian troops who fought for Australia during World War II, especially to those who served during key Papua New Guinea battles which took place in 1942-43 along the Kokoda Track, at Milne Bay on the south-eastern tip of Papua, and at Buna, Gona, and Sanananda on the northern coastline.
The Walkway was launched in 1994. Begin your journey at the Walkway, you can experience a memorial walk covering an 800 metre paved walkway - starting from Rhodes Station to Concord Hospital in Sydney's inner-west, and runs along the mangrove-studded shores of Brays Bay on the Parramatta River.
At the
Memorial Centrepiece are magnificent granite walls bearing photographic images of the campaign, with water also forms an integral part of the Centrepiece.
There're 22
Interpretive Stations and plaques along the walkway, each providing historical accounts and images of the significant place or engagement.
Additionally, the Memorial Walkway has been planted with tropical vegetation simulating the conditions in the New Guinea.
For more information about the Walkway, you can check out the
map before initiating the journey.
