Are you up to the Kokoda Challenge? Hike 96km with 3 mates, within a 39hr time limit. Your goal is to finish with a complete team of four, in honour of the spirit forged on the Kokoda Track in 1942 - mateship, endurance, courage and sacrifice.
Hailed as Australia's toughest endurance event, the Kokoda Challenge follows fire trails and paths through the Gold Coast Hinterland and includes areas of: Austinville, Springbrook, Numinbah Valley, Beechmont and Clagiraba to the finish line at the Nerang Velodrome. Teams pay to enter and a further amount is required in fundraising. The money raised goes to the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program, which aims to "help young people gain confidence, direction, life skills, new friends and the knowledge that anything is possible".

Team spots are limited and fill within hours of opening. Taking place annually in July, it is an experience to welcome teams in at the finish and cheer them over the line. Up to 39 hours of trekking a 96km course that crosses 12 creeks and summits of 5,000m vertical elevation, is no easy hike.
Kokoda Challenge Gold Coast
The Kokoda Challenge 2012 takes place on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July. You must be 18 or over to participate in The Kokoda Challenge (or over 16 and accompanied by an adult) in a team. For those teams who are under 16, the Stan Bisset Cup and Jim Stillman Cup are great alternatives.
In partnership with The Gold Coast Region Scouts, The Kokoda Challenge 2012 will once again include Junior Games. The day includes a series of challenges including a backpack relay race, tug-o-war, obstacle courses, team walk and stretcher races. The fun community day will give kids aged between 6-12 years an introduction to Kokoda Spirit, with the focus not being on winning but doing everything as a team and not giving up at the first hurdle.
Over 300 volunteers support Kokoda, so if you are over the age of 16 and interested in getting involved, click here or email James at email@example.com.

Registration for 2012 opens on the 1st of February at 6am. Click here to receive newsletters. Remember that places will fill within hours of registration opening, so if you are serious about taking part, get all your paperwork in order beforehand and set your alarm. Taking part is a great way to get fit and take on a personal challenge that you will never forget. You will get to know your teammates as you never have before and your support crew will be your lifeline to success. If 96kms is realistically not for you, drop in at the Nerang Velodrome and cheer in the teams, as they finish what certainly isn't a walk in the park.
The Spirit of Kokoda The Kokoda Challenge Association was established in 2005 by The Kokoda Challenge Chairman Doug Henderson and his wife Anna. Their goal was to raise awareness of the Kokoda Campaign of 1942 and use the Spirit of Kokoda to help young Australian's reach their full potential. Teaming up with a handful of members from the Gold Coast Bushwalking Club, The Kokoda Challenge Association set about planning and hosting the first Kokoda Challenge fundraising event, in the Gold Coast Hinterland in July 2005.
