If you are travelling through from Perth to Albany, then why not take a break in the quaint town of Kojonup.
I stayed in a historic building which used to be a cleaning shed for linseed and clover, which what makes this lovely B&B so quaint. As it was a cleaning shed, the ceilings are particularly high and I have been told by Kerrie the owner and manager that they are the original beams. You can book direct or use Airbnb, whichever you prefer.
I loved the gardens that have been built and cared for by Kerrie and her late husband. They are just a dream to wander through, with little seating areas and interesting sculptures, both natural and man-made to stop and admire.
In the late afternoon, I sat out on the front balcony and enjoyed a cup of tea to the sounds of many birds visiting the flowering plants around me, what a wonderful way to end a trip from Perth.
Kerrie also has an art studio on the premises and we sat down and planned some workshops that we would like to do together, what a wonderful workshop retreat this would make. A weekend of crafting, laughing and relaxing. I can't wait.
I went to the Shell Roadhouse for dinner (yes unusual, but they have a restaurant there) and had the most wonderful fresh prawns, very nice indeed, and its BYO, so take a bottle of wine or a few beers with you if you are so inclined.
There are a few historic buildings and sites to see in Kojonup as well as a nice bakery and some lovely craft shops with unique gifts made in the region. There is also the rose maze, so if you enjoy flowers this is a must-see for all.
Always remember to stop and smell the roses when travelling, you will still get to your destination and you could miss so much by rushing past small historic towns like this one.
